The atelier programme for the EUROPA CANTAT 2027 International Choral Festival has been announced, offering a rich and diverse journey through the world of choral music. During the festival, taking place from 9 to 15 August 2027 in Liepāja (Latvia), around 3000 participants will have the wonderful opportunity to take part in more than 35 ateliers. Designed for singers and choirs of all experience levels, the programme ensures that everyone can find an atelier that best matches their interests and capabilities.
Under the guidance of distinguished conductors, participants will explore repertoire spanning a wide range of musical genres - from Renaissance, Classical, Romantic and contemporary choral music to opera and symphonic works, as well as pop, rock and jazz arrangements, including choreographed vocal performances.
The ateliers will offer a vast musical journey: participants will explore Baltic (Ingrid Mänd: Music by two Pärts: Arvo Pärt and Pärt Uusberg) and Nordic musical traditions (Håvard Gravdal & Elisabeth Anvik: Norwegian Folk Tunes), discover the musical character of Türkiye, Greece, Ireland, the Alps, and the Adriatic region, and uncover the distinct rhythms of Latin American (Federico Trindade: Latin American Popular Choir: Voice, Body, Flow) and Cameroonian (Jean Alexis Bakond: Cameroon in Song: Choral Traditions From the Heart of Africa) choral music. The material mastered during the ateliers will be showcased by the participants in special concerts at the conclusion of the festival.
The atelier programme brings together some of today's leading names in the international choral world, such asSofi Jeannin - one of the world’s most respected choral specialists, Jim Daus Hjernøe - professor at the Royal Academy of Music, leading figure in jazz choir, vocal improvisation, and Vocal Painting, conductor Elisenda Carrasco i Ribot - widely recognized for her work with youth and children's choirs, Jaan-Eik Tulve - internationally respected specialist in Gregorian chant and early music, Petra Grassi - winner of the top prizes at several international conducting competitions,vocal ensemble RAJATON, and many other outstanding choral conductors. The internationally celebrated Latvian composer Ēriks Ešenvalds will also lead an atelier as part of the festival programme, best known as one of the world's most frequently performed contemporary choral composers.
