Hans Leenders (NL)
Hans Leenders (he/him) is an organist, conductor, composer, and educator from the Netherlands. He is artistic director of the professional chamber choir Studium Chorale, as well as the conductor of Kamerkoor Maastricht and Schola Maastricht. He has served as guest conductor with the Slovenian Philharmonic Choir, Groot Omroepkoor, Cappella Amsterdam, Europa Cantat, and several conservatories in Europe. He is the music director and principal organist of the Basilica of our Lady in Maastricht, and artistic advisor of the festival l’Europe & l’Orgue.
He is a principal teacher for choral conducting and organ at the Maastricht Conservatory. Leenders has previously led summer courses in Gregorian chant at the Folkwang-University of Arts in Essen, Germany, taught choir conducting at the Kurt Thomas course, and founded the Studium Chorale masterclass for young conductors.
Leenders is the composer in residence in Maastricht, and he is especially known for his vocal music. Notable works include Patina for music theatre, Missa in simplicitate for singer(s) and string quartet, his new Requiem, and the oratorio De Veertien Stonden.
